Overview
Fiat Automobile S.p.A. is a subsidiary the Netherlands based Stellantis N.V., which was formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (Italian/ American) and Groupe PSA (French). You may not be familiar with these names, but the automotive brands in the portfolio would be well known to most consumers. These include: Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Jeep, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo etc.
Fiat continues to remain the largest automotive manufacturer in Italy, but also has manufacturing locations globally, with Brazil as the largest international production site. Fiat Automobiles has been recognised in Europe for the lower emission footprint of its vehicles and has been ranked as the lowest level of CO2 emissions by vehicles sold in Europe. Fiat offers both passenger and commercial electric vehicles (EVs). The manufacturer offers the following electric vans:
- Fiat e-Ducato
- Fiat e-Scudo
- Fiat e-Doblò

Fiat e-Doblò Panel Van
The compact Fiat Doblò light commercial vehicle has been available since 2000. It made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in the same year. It is currently in its third-generation. The Doblò LCV is also available as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV).
The Fiat e-Doblò panel van is available in one EV battery size: 50 kWh. The manufacturer claims an electric range up to 175 miles (WLTP). Of course, the real-world electric range will be lower, impacted by a number of factors, to include: payload, driving profile, speed, weather conditions, temperature, onboard services used etc. Expect a real-world e-range closer to 150 miles. The EV offers a useful and practical zero-emission electric range.
The manufacturer offers DC charging up to 100 kW DC. At 100 kW DC, the 50 kWh EV battery can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes. In general, we at e-zoomed recommend never letting the EV battery charge fall below 10%. So best to plan the journey, such that there is always sufficient charge in the battery.
Fiat offers up to three-phase AC onboard charging compatibility. However, not as standard! Using a dedicated three-phase (11 kW) EV charger, like easee, the 50 kWh EV battery can be fully charged in 5 hours. Single-phase (7 kW) EV charging will take longer: 7 hours and 30 minutes. Though the e-van can be charged using a standard 3-PIN domestic plug, we at e-zoomed discourage using a domestic plug to charge an electric vehicle.
In any case, we at e-zoomed encourage a ‘topping up’ approach to charging an electric vehicle (EV). This is beneficial for the long-term maintenance of the onboard EV battery and of course, EV charging times are shorter. Fiat offers a 8 years or 100,000 miles warranty for the EV battery.
The Fiat e-Doblò panel van is available in two lengths: Standard Wheelbase (L1) and Maxi Wheelbase (L2). The electric van offers between 3.3 m3 – 4.4 m3 cargo volume, with a payload up to 803 kg. The EV offers 2/3 seat configuration.
The manufacturer also offers a host of driving aids and technology, to include: adaptive cruise control, lane Keeping assist, blind spot detection and more. The EV also incorporates a ‘magic mirror’: two cameras – one under the right rear-view mirror and the other above the rear doors – ensures the driver has three different views. The pure electric van also benefits from a Head-Up Display.
In terms of performance, the front-wheel drive Fiat e-Doblò panel van delivers a maximum power up to 136 hp (torque: 260 Nm). The top speed is 80 mph. The electric van also incorporates regenerative braking to improve the efficiency of the EV and increase the electric range. Like other electric vehicles, the e-Doblò also benefits from instant torque. The e-van offers the following driving modes: Normal, Eco, Power and B-Mode.
The Fiat e-Doblò is expected to be eligible for the UK government plug-in van grant. The electric vehicle is currently going through the approval process.
Bottom-line, electric driving is good for the environment and the wallet! You can lease electric vans via e-zoomed at competitive prices.
