Citroën ë-Berlingo Panel Van
The Citroën Berlingo is currently in its third-generation. It has been available since 1996. The pure electric Citroën ë-Berlingo was unveiled in early 2021. The Berlingo Electric is not the first electric van developed by Citroen. The Citroen Electrique was released in 2010 and 250 electric vans were supplied to the French postal service (La Poste).
The electric van is available in two lengths: M & XL. Both have the same sized onboard EV battery: 50 kWh. The automotive manufacturer claims an electric range up to 171 miles on a full charge. This is certainly an improved e-range compared to the some of the older pure electric vans. The EV offers a useful and practical range.
Of course, the real-world electric range will be lower, impacted by a number of factors, to include: payload, driving profile, weather conditions, temperature, onboard services used etc. Expect a real-world e-range closer to 145 miles. The manufacturer offers DC charging up to 100 kW DC. Charging the electric van at 100 kW DC, the EV battery can achieve 80% charge in 30 minutes. Just enough time for a quick coffee and rest!
Citroën offers, both, a three-phase (11 kW) and single-phase (7.4 kW) AC onboard charger. With the three-phase (11 kW) onboard AC charger, the electric van can be fully charged in 5 hours using a dedicated 3-phase EV charger. Charging at 7.4 kW (single-phase) will take longer (7 hours and 30 minutes). There is an additional payment to upgrade to the 11 kW onboard AC charger.
Though the e-van can be charged using a standard 3-PIN domestic plug, we at e-zoomed discourage using a domestic plug to charge an electric vehicle. It will take up to 31 hours to achieve 100% charge using a domestic 3-PIN plug. In any case, we at e-zoomed encourage a ‘topping up’ approach to charging an electric vehicle. This is beneficial for the long-term maintenance of the onboard EV battery and of course, EV charging times are shorter. Citroën offers a 8 years or 100,000 miles warranty.
In terms of performance, the front-wheel drive (FWD) Citroën ë-Berlingo panel van delivers a maximum power up to 136 hp and 260 Nm torque. The top speed is 84 mph. The electric van also incorporates regenerative braking to improve the efficiency of the EV and increase the electric range. The e-van has three driving modes: Normal, Eco & Power.
The electric van is available in two lengths, M (4403 mm) and XL (4753 mm), and offers decent cargo volume: 3.3 m3 and 4.4m3 respectively. The payload of the electric commercial van is up to 800 kg. The EV offers 2 seats.
The Citroën ë-Berlingo is eligible for the UK government plug-in van grant for the ‘small vans’ category. These vehicles are less than 2,500 kilograms (kg) gross vehicle weight, have CO2 emissions of less than 50g/km and can travel at least 96km (60 miles) zero-emission. The grant will pay for 35% of the purchase price for small vans, up to a maximum of £2,500.
Bottom-line, electric driving is good for the environment and the wallet! You can lease electric vans via e-zoomed at competitive prices.
