There Has Never Been A More Profound Time To Challenge Our Relationship With Mobility, And To Migrate From Polluting Four Wheel Petrol & Diesel Cars, To Two Wheel Electric Scooters And Electric Bikes, As Consumers Seek More Convenience, Social Distancing, Lower Travel Costs And Greener Solutions!
If there is one certainty from the ongoing pandemic, is that, the world post coronavirus will be very different to the world before the outbreak. The impact from this crisis will be profound and long-term, but despite the current hardships, we will learn important lessons, which will have a long-term positive impact for society as a whole.
In particular, we will witness fundamental changes in consumer buying attitudes, in ways, which we have yet to fully comprehend. However, we can be certain that sustainability, the environment and consumption impact on our planet, will be core themes in the decision making process of consumers, as we move forward.
One area that we expect to witness a paradigm shift, is mobility, in particular, the relationship of an individual or household with mobility. In our view, families and individuals, across cities, town and villages in the UK will fiercely challenge the ‘status quo’ in regards to their incumbent relationship with mobility. Older mobility models with polluting petrol and diesel vehicles at the centre of an individual or family ecosystem will be orphaned and replaced by new mobility concepts. Families will replace their cars with more convenient, cheaper and environmentally friendly solutions. The norm of two polluting internal combustion engine (ICE) cars outside a family home will be replaced by smaller pure electric cars, e-bikes and e-scooters with a more positive outcome for the environment.
We expect a significant number of individuals in densely populated cities, like London, to seek new forms of mobility. Cars will be abandoned, and to some extent public transportation, as individuals migrate in large numbers to using cycles, electric bikes, electric scooters and electric kick-scooters, for shorter work and leisure commutes. Outright ownership of two-wheelers and electric mobility sharing schemes will witness exponential growth.
During this ongoing lockdown, many of us have experienced the positives of a city or town, with reduced traffic, lower air pollution and lower noise pollution. We have got a reasonably good sense of our cleaner environment and will not want to revert to the congested, polluted and harmful world of cities choking due to tailpipe emissions.
Many European countries have already achieved this utopia a few years ago. The Netherlands is a case in point. The country has a population of 17 million, who own over 22.5 million bicycles. At an average they own 1.3 bicycles per capita, more than any other in the world.
We in the United Kingdom can learn much from countries like the Netherlands, to significantly improve the quality of our lives. The logic is profoundly simple: the lower the use of cars in cities and towns, the lower the negative impact on air quality, the lower the harmful health impact on children, the vulnerable and the society at large, the higher an individuals quality of life and lower the burden to the government in regards to healthcare costs. It is impossible to argue with this assertion!
So, wherever in the UK you are based, ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I need a car to commute to work or can I commute another way?
- Do I need a car for my day-to-day social activity or can I commute another way?
- Do I need a car for my day-to-day errands or can I commute another way?
You will be surprised, but on thorough reflection, you will come to the same conclusion, as many others have done i.e. cars are a very poor choice for shorter commutes! We at e-zoomed suggest you consider the following mobility options.
- Electric scooters (e-scooters)
- Electric bikes (e-bikes)
Top Reasons To Own An Electric Scooter Or An Electric Bike
Save Money
Now, who does not want to save hard earned money! It is difficult to overestimate this point. Using an electric scooter or a pedal-assist bike is significantly cheaper that an ICE car (petrol and diesel). The savings are not only from fuel, but also from reduced parking, congestion charge, service, maintenance, repair and insurance costs. An individual and family can save substantially, which given the current economic environment, is welcome news for all!
Increase Convenience and Save Time
How many of you have been forced to abandon plans or arrive late for work and meetings because of delayed trains, tubes and buses? Or been stuck in a never ending traffic jam? Or have to take multiple connection to reach a particular destination? Electric scooters and e-bikes put you in-charge of your day, such that you have far better control of your schedule. You leave when you need to and you arrive on time. Now, that is convenience!
Environmental Benefit
To many consumers, this is now more critical than ever before, as we realise during the current lockdown the improved air quality and reduced noise pollution mostly from polluting internal combustion engine (ICE) petrol and diesel vehicles. Moreover, many of us do not want to further pollute the very environment we live in. Electric vehicles, in particular, battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), like e-scooters are zero-emission i.e. these vehicles do not have any tailpipe emissions and do not increase local air pollution like conventional scooters. The same is the case for electric bikes and electric kick-scooters. All choices of e-mobility that are environmentally friendly.
Increase Fitness And Health
Electric bikes are certainly good for increasing fitness level and in turn improving general health. Many of us work long days and are unable to exercise on a regular basis. Pedal-assisted electric bikes gives us an opportunity to exercise in our hectic daily schedule by using an e-bike for commuting to work or running errands.
And lastly, electric scooters and electric bikes are pure fun. If you do not believe us, try it yourself!
