Overview
Peugeot is part of the Netherlands based Stellantis N.V., which was formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (Italian/ American) and Groupe PSA (French). You may not be familiar with these names, but the automotive brands in the portfolio would be well known to most consumers. These include: Maserati, Opel, Vauxhall, Jeep, FIAT, Alfa Romeo etc.
Peugeot was founded in 1810 in Eastern France (Sochaux), and has a rich heritage in motor racing and the broader automotive sector. Peugeot has won many awards for its passenger cars, to include, six European Car of the Year awards. As part of the broader Groupe PSA, Peugeot is very committed to the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Peugeot e-Expert Panel Van
The Peugeot Expert light commercial vehicle has been available since 1995. The LCV is also available as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The Peugeot e-Expert panel van is available in two EV battery sizes: 50 kWh and 75 kWh. The manufacturer claims an electric range up to 148 miles (WLTP) for the smaller 50 kWh EV battery and a range up to 211 miles (WLTP) for the 75 kWh EV battery.
Of course, the real-world electric range will be lower, impacted by a number of factors, to include: payload, driving profile, speed, weather conditions, temperature, onboard services used etc. Expect a real-world e-range closer to 120 miles for the 50 kWh EV battery and 170 miles for the 75 kWh variant. Without doubt both EV battery sizes offer a useful and practical zero-emission electric range.
The manufacturer offers DC charging up to 100 kW DC. At 100 kW DC, the 50 kWh EV battery can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes, while the 75 kWh EV battery will also take up to 45 minutes for a 80% charge. In general, we at e-zoomed recommend never letting the EV battery charge fall below 10%. So best to plan the journey, such that there is always sufficient charge in the battery.
Peugeot offers up to three-phase AC onboard charging compatibility. However, not as standard, which is indeed a pity! Using a dedicated three-phase (11 kW) EV charger, like easee, the 50 kWh EV battery can be fully charged in 4 hours and 45 minutes. The 75 kWh will take up to 7 hours to achieve 100% charge. Most business premises in the UK are powered by three-phase power supply.
Single-phase (7 kW) EV charging will take longer (7 hours and 30 minutes for the 50 kWh EV battery and 11 hours and 30 minutes for the 75 kWh EV battery). Though the e-van can be charged using a standard 3-PIN domestic plug, we at e-zoomed discourage using a domestic plug to charge an electric vehicle. It will take up to 28 hours for a full charge for the 50 kWh and 42 hours for the 75 kWh EV battery.
In any case, we at e-zoomed encourage a ‘topping up’ approach to charging an electric vehicle (EV). This is beneficial for the long-term maintenance of the onboard EV battery and of course, EV charging times are shorter. Peugeot offers a 8 years or 100,000 miles warranty for the EV battery.
The Peugeot e-Expert panel van is available in two lengths: Standard (4959mm) and Long (5309mm). The electric van offers between 5.3 m3 – 6.1 m3 cargo volume, with a payload up to 1,226 kg. The EV offers 3 seats. The manufacturer also offers a host of driving aids and technology (not all as standard), to include: advanced emergency braking system, collision alert, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, speed limit recommendation and intelligent speed adaption, driver attention alert, adaptive cruise control, blind spot assist and more.
In terms of performance, the front-wheel drive Peugeot e-Expert panel van delivers a maximum power up to 136 hp and 260 Nm torque. The top speed is 81 mph. The EV can achieve 0-62 mph in 14.3 seconds. The electric van also incorporates regenerative braking to improve the efficiency of the EV and increase the electric range. Like other electric vehicles, the e-Expert also benefits from instant torque. The EV offers three driving modes: Eco (60 kW, 180 Nm for optimising range), Normal (80 kW, 210 Nm for everyday use) and Power (100 kW, 260 Nm for optimal performance).
The Peugeot e-Expert is eligible for the UK government plug-in van grant for the ‘large vans’ category. These vehicles are between 2,500kg and 4,250kg gross vehicle weight, have CO2 emissions of less than 50g/km and can travel at least 96km (60 miles) zero-emissions. The grant will pay for 35% of the purchase price for these vehicles, up to a maximum of £5,000.
